i love my job...

i'm glad i have a blog now. especially since p.ramlee opened, i find myself still buzzing from the adrenalin of watching the show again and again each night, still unable to switch off even past 2 am like NOW. i must say i'm the biggest fan of the show myself. i'm glad i have the chance to be in the audience this time around and just enjoy being entertained for a change instead of working it on stage, its quite a different experience. i'm glad though that now, FINALLY, in our 3rd last performance for the season, i can put my nightly notes to rest. otherwise i can't sit through a show and not be typing notes for actors, notes to zahim, pat, erwin, from my seat in the audience, to give them the next evening during briefing and sound-checks. FINALLY, the actors don't have me look for them backstage just to have me whip out my now infamous bling phone that carries notes for each of them. its so funny, whenever any of them see me approaching them and i go "ha!" they know that next thing that will happen is out comes my phone and out come the notes. bless these kids.

its part of the magical organic process i enjoy in theatre really. if something doesnt work, we can either remove it, or edit the text, or re-work the scene till it works. when something is working, we let the audience savour the moment. with film unfortunately, what you see on the big screen is what you get... it costs an arm and a leg to edit anything and have to go through the final mix process etc again...God forbid!

i sit through the show each night and allow myself to get soaked up in the show completely now. i look forward to the opening titles, cos the crowd response at that point tells me whether or not we have a "fun" crowd in the house that evening. then i look forward to the train sequence, which i think is malek's ultimate magic trick so far, i look forward to the scene where junaidah (atilia), ida, izlyn, zeqhty and maya swoon over p.ramlee...such an adorable "girlie" moment, that. then i look forward to the cutie pie infinatez and azrul in their paparazzi sequences. then, my faaaavorite scene in all of act 1 - the wedding of junaidah and ramlee! that just kills me. i love the look on sean's face when he turns his face and next thing he knows he's looking at the kadi! sean is ace in that scene, to me. what caps act 1 for me is sean's "hujan di tengahari" especially when he does the 1-octave-higher thing.

in act 2, i look forward to the norizan-ramlee showdown.melissa really blows me (and everyone else apparently) with her powerhouse acting in that scene. hats off to you, babe. thats a killer role and you nailed it no sweat. i thnk i wanna try "get outta my way!" one of these days, just for the thrill.. hee hee. after that, the moment saloma appears, its magic all the way to the end of the show. liza hanim has to be the most under-rated actress/singer ever. i've never really been a fan of any local singer's voice, but i must say liza's just mesmerises me, unfailingly, day after day, without fail. and the "gelora" scene is my absolutelutelute favorite of the entire show. the courtship and wedding proposal brings tears to my eyes everytime. and by the end of the show when seam sings "airmata di kuala lumpur" i'm a wreck.

i love my job.

Two thumbs up for you Datin!!!
The show gives the younger generations like me to notice the ups and downs, in the real life of our late great legendary Tan Sri P.Ramlee. "P. Ramlee The Musical" is a real blast! I really wish I could witness the show for the second time.

Hi Datin,

Im unable to comment on your wonderful experience and resilience in putting up such a wonderful musical. In short BRAVO! However I would like to express and share my thoughts which I will also try to place in my blog shortly.
I took much effort to obtain a ticket for the show as I had forgotten to pay in time after booking online. Oooo...my disappointment when the online booking shows were closed. Calls to box office was of no help cuz tickets were all "all sold out." Not giving myself any reason to miss out, I had painstakingly driven to Istana Budaya, keeping my fingers crossed that I would get lucky.
I had a budget of RM80 which was all sold out...(2nd disappointment)...RM120 secured me a great seat on the day of my choice...without thinking twice I grabbed it.
On the nite I attended the musical,my adrenalin rushed from the moment the gong struck till the very end of the show.Nevertheless, I had noone to share my excitement and feelings cuz I went alone.I momentarily felt like a schoolgirl...bought the programme book after the show just to get the main casts' autographs and see them up close.3rd disappointment, I didnt have a camera with me, even if I had brought along, everyone was too buzy snapping and clicking with the actors for their own album and memoir.
I would have regretted if I had missed this wonderful show as it brought back so much memories of the late Tan Sri.Salute to you specially and the whole team having successfully put together a great performance. I am no critic neither am I from the performing arts nor media, just someone who appreciates what I see excellent in my eyes.
As human we all have our views and opinion. Good raves we bless ourselves, negative reviews should be just another step towards improvementand will give you the extra mileage. To me whatever was inadequate in the musical is negligible but should be noted as pointers in the future. You and Enfinity have gone miles ahead of PGL, which I manage to catch the second time around performance. I had enjoyed PGL but P.Ramlee has proven your capabilities and dream as well as vision for the local entertainment industry.Keep it up!
At the end of the musical my hands did not stop clapping and I have never done so in any other theatrical. With the standing ovation (which I assume happens at the end of every show), what more can I say.
The musical even inspired me to know a bit more of Tan Sri that I even purchased the book Bapaku P Ramlee as written by his one and only flesh and blood, Mr. Nasir. In all honesty this is my 2nd Malay book purchase, while Ranjau di sepanjang jalan was my first bought during my school days back in the 70s.
To wrap up, CONGRATULATIONS to ALL...
Cant wait to catch your next production and I am sure your contribution would have uplifted the local entertainment scene...

Bye for now...cant wait to start my Blog...salam...Sophie

If it is okay for me to suggest something...I read you were wondering if you would continue blogging after P Ramlee's musical? (Did I get that right?) I would say it would be great if you continued blogging. Just talk anything theatre here, or acting or entertainment...anything..even general thoughts. This would give you direct opportunities to hear views views from all of us. This way, you would always be in touch with reality. That is priceless to my mind.

You might even get inspiration from some of us normal people out here. What a scoop that would be!!

Ha ha..that profile pic has been photoshopped. I had fun at Christian Dior. If only photoshoppe can be bottled kan? Best nya..so easy to rid of wrinkles and blemishes..he he.

Cheers.

First and foremost, my heartiest congratulations and job well done on “P Ramlee The Musical”. What a highly entertaining and professionally staged production!

I myself have watched it 3 times – twice complimentary and once on my own accord. All three times have not disappointed me.

I must say that I am extremely critical of the local entertainment industry after many disappointments. I had pretty low expectations of this production but I am glad to say that I am gravely mistaken.

The two most distinct things I brought home from these viewings are
1. The brilliant talent of Sean Ghazi
2. The top-notch production of Malaysian theater particularly by you and your team.

Your casting of Sean Ghazi proved to be spot on. Sean’s portrayal as P Ramlee was outstanding and his singing superbly delivered that I am now an ardent fan. I would not have know his existence or his talent had he not appeared in this production.

Kudos to the set and stage team for a seamless stage transformation and the music team has me humming the songs constantly. Good job!

It is so refreshing and makes me and many people so proud to know that we – Malaysians - have a talented theatrical team capable of such high world class standards. "Ada standard!", people say. I really wish that this musical can be brought to the international stage.

You have converted and put faith in me in the local theatrical production. Well, yours at least!

If there are any opportunities to be part of the local theater under your tutelage, please do let us know. I am sure many are now inspired.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS!

I watched PRtM twice on 26th and matinee show (3 nov) after surf ticket2u.biz of additional show and can't get enough of it! The superb script, great songs and talented actor you got, is truly a recipe of success. Love the song 'Mulanya Cinta' by Dato' Siti Nurhaliza.
Can't wait for PRtM musical soundtrack album to be release.. when it will be release actually?

..and please continue write in this blog. :)
Keep up the good work!

Datin,

Too bad I was not able to watch "P. Ramlee The Musical" as it was a sold out. Really looking forward to it after the wonderful job you did with PGL.

You are a name to be reckoned with when it comes to our local theatre scene. Salute to you!

Respect, respect, respect.

I got to see the show, yay! It was fab.
My mum says Liza Hanim sounds exactly like Saloma, and in some scenes even look like her. I thought she was gr8.
I thought the props were out of the world. I love the recreation of the Penang street of the 50s and the train, steaming and all, blows me away. The scene changes were seamless.
Though, honestly, i didn't much care for the melissa saila as norizan. A bit over the top i thot.

Congratulations to you, Tiara (may I call you that?) for pulling it off. You've got looks, brains and talent.
What's your next project, cos i'm going to start lining up for tix

Congrats on the success of PRTM, Datin! I managed to catch ot before the tickets ran out and LOVED every minute of it.

Please do tell us if the PRTM Soundtrack will come out soon?

The PGL soundtrack is one of my favourite CDs to listen, as it is full of emotions. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the PRTM CD!

Also, good luck on your next project, whatever it may be!
